🎬📚 BOOKS INTO MOVIES: THE ADAPTATIONS YOU NEVER SAW COMING

UNDER THE SKIN (2013)

From book: Under the Skin (2000) by Michel Faber

Directed by: Jonathan Glazer

Film release date: September 3, 2013 (Venice premiere)

Michel Faber’s novel is chatty, interior, and disturbingly intimate.

Jonathan Glazer’s film?

A nearly wordless, emotionally alien, (Scarlett Johansson) inhabits the earthly form of a young woman who combs the roads and streets of Scotland in search of the human prey she came to plunder.

She begins to discover herself as human with tragic and terrifying consequences.

Much of the film uses hidden cameras, making reality itself part of the adaptation.

Although 'booed' at its World Premiere at the start of the 2023 Venice Film Festival it went on to win a number of awards!

Awards & recognition:

Won 23 Awards and Nominated for another 113

  • âś… European Film Award for Best Composer (Mica Levi)

  • âś… Multiple critics’ awards for Best Score

  • [imdb.com], [en.wikipedia.org]

📌 Why film watchers love it: Because it’s adaptation by subtraction—what’s removed is the point.
